Bibliography Basics
Unless otherwise instructed, follow these guidelines for formatting your bibliography:
- Sort your bibliography entries alphabetically by the last name of the first author (or title if anonymous).
- Each entry should have a ½-inch hanging indent (i.e., the first line of each entry is flush with the left margin, and subsequent lines are indented).
- Entries should be single-spaced, but include a line of blank space between each entry.
- Use standard postal state abbreviations. Illinois should be “IL”, not “Ill.”
Paper Template
Use our Turabian Paper Template for a head start on formatting your paper. To use, download the template. Each time you open the template file, a new Microsoft Word document will be created. Save the document with a new title and begin work on your paper.
