Turabian Citation Guide

This citation guide is based on Kate Turabian’s A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations (9th ed.) and should be used for most papers at Covenant Theological Seminary.

Bibliography Basics

Unless otherwise instructed, follow these guidelines for formatting your bibliography:

  • Sort your bibliography entries alphabetically by the last name of the first author (or title if anonymous).
  • Each entry should have a ½-inch hanging indent (i.e., the first line of each entry is flush with the left margin, and subsequent lines are indented).
  • Entries should be single-spaced, but include a line of blank space between each entry.
  • Use standard postal state abbreviations. Illinois should be “IL”, not “Ill.”

Paper Template

Use our Turabian Paper Template for a head start on formatting your paper. To use, download the template. Each time you open the template file, a new Microsoft Word document will be created. Save the document with a new title and begin work on your paper.
