Jesus Prayer

The best-known breath prayer dates back to the desert fathers and mothers of the 5th century AD:

(While in haling) Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God,

(while exhaling) have mercy on me, a sinner.

A breath prayer may contain a request such as the Jesus Prayer, or it may contain only a phrase.

   (inhale) Grace (exhale) and peace.
