Parts of an Academic Paper

This guide provides instruction on the basic building blocks of academic writing including the thesis, introductions and conclusions, and body paragraphs.

The Building Blocks

While there are multiple genres of academic writing you will be asked to produce while in seminary, they generally share the following building blocks:

  • Thesis statement
  • Introductory paragraph
  • Body paragraphs
  • Conclusion
